This 1968 Mercury Montego affords you the PERFECT way to get into the collector car hobby without breaking your bank account!
With a believed to be 58,000 miles on it, the car is in great running, driving, and stopping condition, and still wears its original finish of Black Cherry with Cardinal white roof.
The paint is original, and therefore shows its age on almost every panel. The burgundy is lightly checked all over, but still shines up pretty good as you can see in the pics. The white is very nice, and only shows a few minor blemishes. There is NO sign of rust, bondo, prior repair, or bubbling/blistering to be found, and the panels are remarkably free of dents and dings too. The chrome, trim, brightwork, badges, and tin on the car are extraordinarily nice, and show better in person than in the photos. Glass is clean and free of any chips or lamination issues. Wire wheel covers are clean and nice, but not perfect, and the tires are a recent addition with over 85% of the useable tread remaining on them. This car belonged to the same people for over 41 years, and the level of care it was given is evident in the overall condition and presentation of the car.
Inside, the car is just stellar from every angle! Velour seats are extra clean, and free of any stains, rips, tears, or issues. Door panels, kick panels, trim panels, and woodgrain inserts all shows very, very nice! All of the hardware, rollers, handles, and trim bits look amazing. Heater/defroster/fan functions as it should, as do the headlamps, brake lamps, turn signals, horn, and wipers! The headliner is clean, doesn’t sag, and has a working dome light. Dash lights work, as do the factory gauges. Steering wheel is clean and neat, and free of any cracks or damage, and has an aftermarket steering ball. Factory AM radio is functional, and plays through a single working speaker. Overall, the inside is one of the cleanest, original interiors you could ask for, and shows how much the prior owners cared for it for 41 years.
Chassis is clean and neat, with no signs of rust or rot, and just normal light oxidation on the exposed metal that will whisk off with a wire brush. Suspension components feel great, and the car has tight steering, a soft ride, and doesn’t rattle/shake/or jar you going over bumps. Brakes are solid and sure, and pull the car down from speed without grabbing or pulling. The original 302ci V8 motor runs like a champ, and starts right up, idles clean, doesn’t smoke, doesn’t weep, and has plenty of power to get you down the road. The Merc-O-Matic automatic transmission shifts cleanly through the gears, and the car drives so nice you’ll want to take it everywhere. This machine has been with one family for 41 years, and was driven weekly to town. It has been safety checked and inspected, and I have personally put about 42 miles on it since it arrived because it is a blast to drive! If you want a car that is easy to own, easy to work on, can be modified the same way as any other 302’s of that era, and can be serviced practically anywhere, this is the car for you!
